Post Spacing

Projection and Post Spacing

Standard post spacing on a structure mount with an on concrete slab attachment usually does not the require the use of concrete footings, steel post inserts or CEE Beam inserts, however, if you desire to eliminate posts you may do so but must further fortify the patio cover structure. For example, if your patio cover design is a 12X24, it typically requires 3 post kits, on an on slab concrete attachment without further added fortification. However, if you desire only the use of 2 post kits its likely you will need to install concrete footings, steel cloverleaf lock seam post inserts and install 3X8 steel CEE Beams into the 3X8 header beam(s). If you are interested in further customizing your patio cover kit beyond standard and unsure of the required components, feel free to contact us if you need consulting on all necessary components needed to build as you desire. Please note: all freestanding project will always require concrete footings and steel lock seam insert posts and depending on the projection and post spans may require steel CEE Beams. Of course, if you have questions, you Contact us for guidance.

How many posts come with the patio cover?

The Elitewood patio covers kits offers an array of post and beam gauges and designs, affording the custom design your patio cover project. However, per the engineering, post spacing will be determined by the wind ratings in your area, the projection, and length of the patio cover. For example, if your patio cover project is a 12X24 with an on concrete slab attachment the wind ratings in your area are 110 exposure C , you will need 3 post kits provided you build it with 2’ of side overhang. Essentially, with this scenario the post spacing should be  between 9’-10’ on center. However, if you desire less posts, such as 2 instead of three…then you will need to install concrete footings and add lock seam steel inserts into the post kit and a steel CEE Beam in the 3X8 header beam. Steel Lock Seam Posts

Required for all freestanding covers; optional for attached covers to obtain maximum post spacing.

Required to be sunk into concrete footings below ground level. Base Plates can be used too if there are sufficient sized Existing concrete footings

Required for all applications if you do not have an existing concrete Slab, or if you have pavers or dirt.

Header Beam and Steel “CEE” Beam

Requires placement inside 3x8 aluminum header beam whenever steel posts are used in patio cover build to provide structural integrity steel beams will not be visible. In addition, it serve the structural ability to hang heavy objects such as TVs Infrared heaters etc.… on your patio cover.
